Hazel PaperTuition Centre
Small-group tutoring · Years 3 to 12

Quiet rooms, clear plans and a tutor who reads every page.

Hazel Paper runs small, steady classes in maths, English, science and languages. Every student starts with a placement session and a written plan, then works through the term in groups of up to six.

Subject index

What we teach, and at which level

Each subject follows the school curriculum for its year band and has its own tutor lead, so the explanations stay consistent from term to term.

  1. 01

    Mathematics

    Years 3 – 12

Number sense and times tables in the early years, then algebra, geometry, functions and calculus as students move up.

  2. 02

    English

    Years 3 – 12

Reading comprehension, grammar and paragraph structure, then essay planning and close text analysis for senior students.

  3. 03

    Science

    Years 7 – 12

General science through to separate chemistry and physics streams, with a focus on data questions and extended answers.

  4. 04

    Languages

    Years 5 – 12

French and Mandarin: vocabulary routines, listening practice and speaking preparation for oral assessments.

  5. 05

    Study skills

    Years 7 – 12

Planning a revision week, note-taking methods and timed practice, built into regular classes rather than sold separately.

How a term runs

Four steps, the same every term

Parents always know where their child is in the plan, and students always know what the next session is for.

  1. Before week one

    Placement session

A relaxed, one-hour session with short tasks and a conversation, so we can place the student in the right group.

  2. Weeks 1 – 10

    Weekly small group

Ninety minutes each week: a short explanation, guided practice, then independent work with the tutor circulating.

  3. Every second week

    Paper review

A short practice paper, marked by hand and gone through line by line in the following session.

  4. End of term

    Parent note

A written one-page note: what was covered, what is secure, and what the next term will focus on.

The room

Built for concentrating, not for performing

Our classrooms are small and quiet. Each table seats a group of up to six, so the tutor can see every page and nobody gets lost at the back.

  • Phones stay in the tray by the door.
  • Every student has a paper workbook for the term.
  • Questions are welcome at any point, even the "obvious" ones.
  • Marked work goes home in the same folder each week.
Choose a format

Three ways to study with us

Fees depend on the format and year level. We'll confirm them in writing after the placement session, with no obligation to enrol.

Questions parents ask

Before you enrol

What happens in the placement session?

Your child completes a few short tasks at their year level and talks with a tutor about what feels easy and what doesn't. It isn't a test. Afterwards we send a written summary and recommend a group or format.

What if my child misses a session?

Let us know beforehand and we'll offer a catch-up seat in another group at the same level that week, if one is available. The session's worksheet is always sent home so nothing is lost.

How much homework is set?

Around twenty to thirty minutes a week for small groups: a short set of practice questions that link to the next session. We keep it light so it doesn't compete with school homework.

How will I know if it's working?

The marked papers come home every second week, and the end-of-term parent note sets out what is secure and what still needs work. You can also request a short conversation with the tutor lead at any time.

Can we switch between group and one-to-one?

Yes. Some students start one-to-one to close a gap and then move into a group, and others do the reverse. Changes take effect at the start of the next term, or mid-term if a seat is free.

Is it too late to start in a senior exam year?

No. Senior students can join at any point. We'll use the placement session to prioritise the topics that matter most for their upcoming assessments and suggest whether an exam intensive would help.
